Zoltán Dörnyei
Dörnyei
Zoltán Dörnyei was a Hungarian-born applied linguist and Professor at the University of Nottingham whose work made motivation in language learning intellectually serious again. He became one of the dominant figures in the study of learner psychology, individual differences, and research methods in applied linguistics.
Dörnyei had a talent for making the psychological interior of language learning feel both theoretically rich and pedagogically relevant. He is one of the few scholars whose concepts travelled easily from research writing into teacher talk.
